Last night (12 November 2015) saw the inaugural Cumbria Life Culture Awards, which recognise the achievements of arts and culture in Cumbria during the past year.
We’re delighted to share the news that our opera for young people, Brundibár won the Production of the Year category. It’s a huge testament to everyone who was involved in the project, and we’re immensely grateful for the support of our partners in Cumbria: Rosehill Theatre, Carnegie Theatre Workington, the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, and Maryport Extended Schools Partnership.
Our production of Hans Krása’s opera Brundibár saw over 500 children across the country take on roles in the piece and helped created the show. Touring across 2015, we worked with young people in Norfolk, Suffolk, London, Hertfordshire and Cumbria.
Brother and sister Pepíček and Aninku are too poor to buy milk for their sick mother. They sing for money in the street, but the evil organ grinder Brundibár chases them away.
Our opera for young people is awarded Production of the Year for performances at Carnegie Theatre Workington.
