This opera had a preview gig last December at Spitafields Winter Festival, which featured the whole musical interpretation; this however will be the first time it will be staged as a full production, including light and sound design.
This piece explores the voyage of a two lovers through the shared psychosis called ‘folie a deux’, where a delusion is transmitted from one person to another. Emily Hall’s songs, which are embedded with classical, jazz and folk influences, evoke madness and loneliness within a relationship.
Folie à Deux is a collaborative project between Mahogany Opera group, award-winning composer Emily Hall and Icelandic lyricist and writer Sjon.
Folie à Deux will also be presented in London the 6 and 7 of June at the Spitafields Summer Festival.
