Snappy Operas' Kickstarter costumes
Mahogany Opera’s award-winning Snappy Operas are on the road again! Sessions have already started in primary schools from North Tyneside to Northamptonshire and thanks to 30 generous supporters, the participants will soon be dressed for success!
The Snappy Opera Festival has kicked off and our teams of artists are now working in schools across the country.
Snappy Operas are designed to cut through preconceptions of opera as elitist and to involve children in every aspect of opera - designing and making as well as learning to tell a story through music and theatre. So, along with movement, singing, and team work, the children are directly involved with staging their performance and making their costumes and props.
They'll certainly have something extra to sing about when the post is delivered because our Snappy Operas' kickstarter has crowd-funded a costume materials box for each participating school. Every box is a treasure chest, jam-packed with everything the pupils need to make costumes for their performances including (but not limited to):
• majestic robes & ruffs and a how-to on wearing your school tie like a punk...
• a range of triumphant crowns for kings & queens and easy-peasy invader helmets...
• smokey tutus, ballooney smog trails & newspaper lace-up business suits...
• feathers, foxes & fudge cakes, dogs & cats, sapaclonkeys & zadoranthas.... !
Running for just four weeks, the crowd-funder galvanised Mahogany Opera supporters and attracted new enthusiasts, raising more than £2,500. They've ensured that the Snappy Opera Festival can provide participants with the added value of the design templates, inspiration and materials created and curated by celebrated designer Anna Bruder.
We’re very grateful to the crowd-funder supporters who include:
