Ed Hughes studied at Cambridge and Southampton. His music has been described as ‘polyphonic, clear and unique’ (Richard Casey, pianist). Commissions include opera The Birds (libretto: Glyn Maxwell) for The Opera Group, I Fagiolini, Glyndebourne, pianist Clare Hammond and the London Sinfonietta. His work Chaconne for Jonathan Harvey won a British Composer Award in 2014. Performances include New Music Players, City of London Festival, Buxton Opera House, Southbank Centre, Royal Opera House, Jerusalem Music Centre, Salamanca Festival, Sydney Festival, BBC Singers and BBC Radio 3 broadcasts. Ed founded the Orchestra of Sound and Light in 2015 for which Brighton Festival commissioned him to write Brighton: Symphony of a City.
