Ted Huffman studied Humanities at Yale University before embarking on a career directing opera and theatre. He was recently nominated for an Olivier Award, a South Bank Sky Arts Award and an RPS Music Award for his production of Philip Venables’ 4.48 Psychosis at the Royal Opera House, a production that won the 2016 UK Theatre Award for Best New Opera Production. During the 2017-18 season, Ted will make debuts at Opernhaus Zürich (Madama Butterfly), Festival Ljubljiana (Svádba) and Oper Frankfurt (Rinaldo) as well as returning to the Dutch National Opera (Trouble in Tahiti/Clemency) and the Royal Opera House (4.48 Psychosis revival). Ted is the recipient of a 2017 MacDowell Fellowship with composer Philip Venables; their choral work, Cake, was recently premiered by The Sunday Boys in Manchester.
