Stephanie Fleischmann is a librettist and playwright whose texts serve as blueprints for intricate three-dimensional sonic and visual worlds. Opera libretti: The Long Walk (music: Jeremy Howard Beck; American Lyric Theater, Opera Saratoga, Utah Opera), After the Storm (music: David Hanlon; Houston Grand Opera/HGOco), The Property (music: Wlad Marhulets; Lyric Opera of Chicago/Lyric Unlimited), texts for Olga Neuwirth’s ‘ecstaloop’ and ‘The Cartographer’s Song’ (Basel, Berlin, Stockholm, Aldeburgh). Music-theatre works include: The Sweetest Life (music: Saskia Lane; with Julian Crouch); Red Fly/Blue Bottle (Noorderzon Festival, Groningen, NL; EMPAC, Troy, NY; HERE, NYC) and The Secret Lives of Coats (music: Christina Campanella; Red Eye, Minneapolis).

Works for theatre have been seen in the UK at the Roundhouse (Tally Ho: NYLon Projects), Birmingham Rep and Theatre Royal Winchester (The Russian Doctor, with Andrew Dawson and Martin Lloyd Evans); in Paris (Exit Festival); and across the U.S.

Honours and awards: Howard Foundation Fellowship, two New York State Council of the Arts Commissions, National Endowment for the Arts Opera/Music-theater, NY State Music Fund, two New York Foundation for the Arts fellowships, Arts Council England, Greenwall Foundation, Frederic Loewe Award, MAP Fund, OPERA America, New Music USA, Whitfield Cook Award, Tennessee Williams Fellow in Playwriting, Sewanee. Residencies: New Dramatists, MacDowell, Playwrights Center, Hedgebrook, New Georges Audrey Residency.
