Research and development in partnership with Arts & Gardens

We’re working with Arts & Gardens to research and develop a new project for young people, called  GIANT.

GIANT is a new opera for children that combines music-making and tree-climbing, which looks to develop young people’s relationships with the arts and the outdoors. It is inspired by Oscar Wilde’s short story ‘The Selfish Giant’, which tells the story of a giant who bans children from his garden only to find it becomes a permanent winter without their presence.

Working with artists including Hannah Conway, Peter Cant, Finn McNicholas, Ruairi Glasheen and Alma Deutscher, young people will spend time helping to develop this new piece and take to the canopies of mature trees. This will culminate in an in-progress showing in the grounds of Alexandra Palace, London, this October.
